JUMP TO RECIPE

This Mango Mousse recipe is one of the first desserts I learned how to make as a newlywed. That was back when I first started buying cooking books in order to prepare meals for my husband, who at that time had a broader culinary experience than I did. This is a very easy and quick recipe to make, and it only requires a few ingredients.

I promise you that you will impress your family and guests with this Mango Mousse! I used DOLE® Mango slices (the ones that come in a jar) for this recipe; the fruit always looks beautiful and has a nice texture.

It says to use condensed milk which is evaporatged milk without sugar. Did you mean to say sweetened condensed milk?

    • Mely Martínez

      Hello Shelli,
Yes, sweetened condensed milk is usually sweet.

I am so silly! Please delete or ignore my previous question!! Yes condensed milk is sweet because evaporated milk is the one I was confusing with "condensed", and evaporated milk is the one that isn't sweet.
Sorry for not reading a few more recipes before commenting! Delicious looking recipe, I can't wait to try it.

This recipe seems very simple but before I make it, I have 2 questions:
    1. Can this be made a day/a few hours in advance or does the gelatin make the mussee set into a harder consistency after it's been refridgerated?
    2. How much gelatine powder is there in each envelope? What I have bought to use comes in a bag.
    Thank you.

      Hello Roya,
This dessert is best to make right before serving, although it won't get to hard is left in the fridge for a couple of hours. One envelope of gelatine equals 2-1/2 teaspoons or 7 grams.

Can I use a regular mango instead of dole mango?

      Hello Ingerid,
OF course, that is the best choice. When I published this recipe for the first time, Mangos were not available where I live up in the northeast.

Hey mmartinez. I want to try out your recipe for a mousse cake, but would it require more gelatin in such case in order to not fall apart?

    Reply

    • mmartinez

      Hello Michelle,
IF you want to try it for a cake, as a filling, you will need to double the amount of gelatine.

If serving right away the gelatin is NOT needed as it will not have time to set up and is actually not doing anything at all! Use gelatin if serving 2-4 hours later or the next day. It needs time to set up.. IF using gelatin: You MUST soften the gelatin first by sprinkling it over top the juice for 10 minutes. Then microwave in 5-10 second intervals until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Cool!! While still portable and barely warm to the touch slowly drizzle into food processor with other ingredients until mixed well. Pour into cups or whatever your using- Chill 2-4 hours in refrigerator before serving.

Just a question. And, please forgive my ignorance in this. But, "condensed milk" did not mean "sweetened condensed milk", did it? By the way, your recipes have my mouth watering. Thank you for sharing,

      Hello Shirley,
Thank you for asking, I had to search if there was another form of condensed milk, but this is what I found.
Condensed MILK It is most often found in the form of "sweetened condensed milk" ("SCM"), with sugar added, and the terms "condensed milk" and "sweetened condensed milk" are often used interchangeably today

If using fresh mangos, what should I use for the 1/2 cup syrup to dissolve the gelatin in? Would Kerns mango nectar or mango juice be okay??

      • Mely Martínez

        Hello Rea,
Mango juice or just plain water will work just fine.
