Candidate Forum

Fox News announced in June 2015, that Martha MacCallum and her "America's Newsroom" co-anchor Bill Hemmer will moderate the 2016 presidential forum. The forum preceded the primetime debate on August 6, 2015.[2] MacCallum has some experience with election coverage and debates; since 2004, she has reported on past presidential debates as well as covered both the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention in addition to conducting candidate interviews.[1]

When asked about moderating her first debate, MacCallum told Elle that "it's an opportunity that I think anybody in this profession wants to get a shot at, so both Bill [Hemmer] and I are really enthusiastic about doing this. It's a great opportunity, and it's a big night. I'm thrilled to be part of it—for the first time."[3] In preparation for the forum, MacCallum told Refinery29: "Bill [Hemmer] and I host America’s Newsroom together every morning, and we’ve interviewed pretty much every candidate across the board. So we’ve been going back and looking over the interviews we’ve done in the past, and batting around possible questions."[4] MacCallum has noted that the focus issues for the forum are the economy and foreign and domestic affairs, especially national security.[4]
