So I got my iphone 12 pro and the belkin ultraglass screen protector and of course screwed it up as I noticed a couple specs of dust or something under the protector, it's like 3/4 down the screen. What is the best and safest way to lift the protector up so I can remove the dust and place it back again. What tools can I use and not scratch the screen. I'd hate to buy another one for $45. Thanks

I think you are SOL. Just get get one of screen protectors of Amazon. I am partial to Spigen, it comes with 2 protectors and installation kit for $13. Plus there are many other brands that might cheaper then Spigen that twill come with installation kit. So if you make mistake you have another one.

In my experience, removing the screen protector to reapply never works out that far from the bottom lower corner, which is easier to handle.

I’ve had some luck with removing the screen protector carefully and using a clean lint roller on it to remove the dust..

Jeeez you bought a 45 dollar screen protector lol. There have been a few YouTube comparisons showing $10 screen protectors having no difference other than the brand name than belkin. Check out mobiletechrevieweh. He does a lot of torture testing of screen protectors, cases, etc.

Anyway get tape. Use the packing tape to lift the screen, use scotch tape in between to get the dust on the screen and on the back of the screen protector. That’s my way of installing screen protector without dust. After I lay the screen protector on and there’s a spec of dust the method described solves that. Make sure you properly clean using alcohol wipes before install to get rid of most dust.

But anyway don’t buy an overpriced lame screen protector from belkin. There’s online screen protectors that ship 3 per $10 and you can fix any mistakes on the install pretty easily having extra screens

Do not take the screen protector all the way off. What I generally do is: get a piece of Scotch tape that is long enough to reach the dust particle, lightly lift the screen protector using your nail at a location closest to the issue (don’t lift the screen protector any more than you need to), slide the piece of Scotch tape under the screen protector with the sticky side facing up, once the tape is over the dust particle stop lifting the screen protector with your nail and let the tape grab the dust, lightly pull on the piece of Scotch tape until it pulls all the way out from under the screen protector.

This should help fix your issue. Good luck!

P.S. - I highly recommend doing this in a well lit area and make sure you clean dust/hair off the area where you’ll be completing this procedure before starting.

I got the same one and this happened to me too.

If you purchased it at the Apple Store, you can take it back if they’re open. They’ll exchange it for you and even help you install it. I messed up mine like you did and the Apple chat specialist said to take it back to the store and they’ll replace it. I did and they happily replaced it without any issues. They took out their machine and installed it for me with a new one.

I’m curious, has anyone tried the Zagg tempered glass screen protectors?

The package says new iPhone 6.1, so I’m hoping it’s still a proper fit. Otherwise that’s $45 out the window.

Also just curious, is the Belkin better than Zagg in anyway? Used Zagg for many years, but I know Belkin has a closer relationship with Apple when it comes to accessories.

i know nuts, hahaha. I tried to use packing tape to lift the corner but it doesn't work, i will need to pry a corner off somehow with finger nail or knife but kinda scared to do that, don't want to scratch the screen which is the purpose of the damn screen protector to begin with, how ironic.

Lesson learned. Kinda sucks though since you spent $45. The cheap glass ones on Amazon have always worked great for me, prevented a cracked screen (the glass on the protector cracks but not the screen) and are pretty easy to apply.

If you have a steamed up bathroom, that's the best spot to put a protector on as well. Also, a lot of people use the application trays but I just eyeball it and I've always been happy with the results.

I have that in my iPad Pro 2018. Very happy with it. I only used one screen protector too. I love the framing tool they include.

Don’t use a knife Please!!! Up just use your finger nail with aid from tape to lift it.

I second this. I have not heard of them before, but they had them available before Spigen even I think. Usually I do Spigen, but I was pleasantly surprised.

As someone who worked in wireless for 11 years, I have had the best experience using a wet cloth with hand sanitizer to wipe it down.. use more than you think so it gets it super clean, use a dry cloth to clear it off, use tape to get dust out and then apply!

i went with the suggestion for ESR and bought the 3 pack, for $14 cdn, but was free because i signed up for an amazon credit card, haha. Can the quality really be as good as the $45 belkin? i'm not really expecting it to be but the couple specks under the screen now irritates me.

screen protectors are consumable devices. Drop the belkin 5 feet over rocks it’ll break. Drop the esr the same way and it’ll break. They’ll need replacement. The edges are prone to cracking eventually so why totally break the bank for something you’ll replace again.

Specks? Aren’t those specks dust so it’s an install error?

I agree. I steam up the bathroom first and let any dust settle for 5 minutes before bringing my phone in. I really think it makes a difference with reducing the chance of dust when doing an installation.

A other reason why I'll never spend $45 on a screen protector. Way to easy to overlook some dust specks. Lifting to remove is a crapshoot. A very good chance it'll never be quite right. Or more dust will get in. $15 for 3 pack that is likely just as good as that $45 makes it possible to yank off that dusty one and try again.

I installed my tempered glass screen protector on my iPhone 12 using the hot shower method in the bathroom and used an air blaster to blow off any remaining dust specks after cleaning the screen right before applying the protector. Went on almost perfect with no dust whatsoever except for a stray piece of lint right on the bottom edge over the bezel, which I presume likely got caught under the protector as I was setting it down onto the screen. Since it was right on the edge, I was able to pull it out by sliding one the dust stickers under the protector to without having to physically lift it, which from experience usually doesn’t go well as you run a high risk of getting more dust/lint getting trapped underneath and making things worse.
