CHELCO working to restore power in outage areas (2024)

Staff Writer| Northwest Florida Daily News

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS— At approximately 5 p.m. local. CHELCO will have crews working through the night, and they will be supplemented Thursday with 100 crew members from other cooperatives and private contractors.

“Restoration times are difficult to predict because a full damage assessment is still being formed. More complete information will be available as soon as the assessment is complete,” said CHELCO CEO Steve Rhodes.

Almost half of CHELCO current 18,412 outages are due to damaged transmission lines to five substations, three of which are south of the bay. These lines are owned and operated by other power companies who are responsible for repairing them.

Accordingly, we are unable to provide an estimated restoration time for members on the Red Bay, Hammock Bay, Eastern Lake, Grayton Beach and Point Washington substations at this time.

Outages by county:

  • Walton: 17,700
  • Okaloosa: 512
  • Holmes: 189
  • Santa Rosa: 4
  • Other: 7

Outages can be monitored on CHELCO’s outage map. We are experiencing technical difficulties; however, it does populate with accurate information when it is online. We are working with our internet service provider to resolve the issues. A link is available at CHELCO.com.
