The iPad Pro 2024 was unveiled on May 7 during a special online stream, titled "Let Loose". Two variants of this latest and possibly greatest Apple-flavored tablet were announced:
- A 13-inch model
- An 11-inch model
This new iPad Pro generation skips the M3 and features the powerful M4 chip, making it one of the most powerful tablets ever produced. The chip boasts an advanced neural engine, enabling impressive AI capabilities.
The iPad Pro also comes with a brand-new screen dubbed the Ultra Retina XDR, leveraging OLED technology. It also supports a refresh rate of 120Hz and can get pretty bright: up to 1000 nits.

Alongside the iPad Pro 2024, Apple showcased the first ever Apple Pencil Pro and a new Magic Keyboard. Both accessories come with USB-C, with the Pencil Pro bringing new tricks like haptic feedback and squeeze functionality. The Magic Keyboard looks revamped and more similar to a laptop keyboard than ever before.
That's not all: there's a camera reposition this time around. The inner camera of the iPad Pro M4 (2024) is now positioned horizontally, making the tablet even more suitable for a laptop-like experience.
Also, the now-thinner (5.1 mm for the 13-inch iPad Pro M4) slates get a nano-texture glass option, but this one is reserved for 1TB and 2TB options solely.
Both variants of the iPad Pro 2024— dubbed by Apple as the Apple Pro M4— are available for pre-order right now on Apple's official online store, with a price increase of $99 across all variants. The expected release date is May 15, 2024.

The new design is somewhat impressive, but it's not the standout feature. That honor belongs to the Tandem OLED screen, which may steal the spotlight. While the redesigned Magic Keyboard is appealing, it does mean that existing iPad Pro owners will have to invest in both the tablet and the keyboard once again.
Are they worth it? Absolutely. We've had a positive experience with 2022 iPad Pros, and even continue to extensively use the M1 models from 2021 without any performance issues. For users who spend significant time on a tablet, the iPad Pros justify their price with their performance, screen quality, sound, usability throughout the day, and robust software ecosystem. However, if you're looking for a screen to watch some Netflix shows on, you better look in the direction of the iPad Air. You'll have some fun with the extra money!
iPad Pro 2024 camera
A camera reposition: The selfiecamera of the iPad Pro M4 (2024) is now positioned horizontally, making the tablet even more suitable for a laptop-like experience.
Thus far, previous iPad Pro models with a TrueDepth Camera for Face ID has the camera on the side when the tablet is held in landscape. This is done so that the camera is at the top of the iPad Pro when it is held in portrait. However, it's not the best solution when the tablet is set horizontally on the table.
A camera is lost: The rear camera setup on the new Pro slate now consists of a single main camera. The ultra-wide snapper is ditched!
The main camera at the back of the iPad Pro M4 (2024) series is 12MP. The front-facing camera embedded in the display is also 12MP.
Apart from the selfie camera relocation for better landscape, the inner snapper still supports Center Stage, ensuring subjects remain in view. Additionally, Pro iPads come with a LiDAR sensor enhancing augmented reality capabilities, although its impact remains limited due to niche applications. The device also boasts impressive video recording capabilities, including 4K 60FPS and 1080P 240FPS, along with support for ProRes format and Cinematic mode.

iPad Pro 2024 battery
Apple hasn't disclosed specific details about the battery capacities and charging speeds of the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pros.
However, based on approximate measurements, the 11-inch model is estimated to have an 8,300mAh battery, while the 13-inch model is estimated to have a 10,340mAh battery.
These figures represent significant increases compared to the previous models. Charging speeds are expected to remain between 20-30W, similar to previous iterations. Despite the larger battery capacities, charging speeds may not see significant improvements, potentially resulting in longer charging times for the new models.
iPad Pro 2024 features and software
The new iPad Pros will debut with iPadOS 17, with a preview of iPadOS 18 expected at WWDC in June.
All of the latest features of the iPad Pro 2024 are enabled thanks to it's M4 chip and the neural engine inside. Apple showcased mostly quality of life updates, news pro apps and AI-enabled features during the live event.
The presenters didn't dwell much on any specific, major features or iPadOS in general, but given that we're expecting a new version to become available by the end of the year, that was pretty much to be expected.
iPadOS 17 brings updates such as the Journal app, revamped Weather app, enhanced iMessage features, and improvements to Apple Music. Stage Manager facilitates multitasking when connected to an external monitor via Thunderbolt. While AI advancements were hinted at, a significant update may be anticipated at WWDC or the iPhone release.
Pads typically receive updates for at least 5 years, suggesting the iPad Pro (2024) will see updates up to iPadOS 22, with the status of iPadOS 23 in late 2029 uncertain.

And that goes double if you're already equipped with a previous-gen iPad Pro, which is serving you diligently. After all, why fix something if it isn't broken?
