5 little-known facts about Temuera Morrison in Star Wars (2024)

Whether you consider him Jango or Boba, here are a few things you may not know about Temuera Morrison.

Making his original appearance nearly two decades agoas Jango Fett, Temuera Morrison has stayed in theStar Warsgalaxy long since. A beheading at the hands of Mace Windu could not silence the clone leader, as Morrison also lent his voice to multiple clone troopers in the prequel trilogy, notably Commander Cody.

Then, of course, spoilers if you have somehow been avoidingThe Mandalorian, he made his triumphant return as Boba Fett, with an intriguing path ahead of him in the series. That’s some of what we do know about Temuera Morrison, but here are a few things you may not about the Star Wars icon.

In an interview with StarWars.com in Australiato celebrate the 15th anniversary ofAttack of the Clones, Morrison spoke about how he became interested inStar Wars and ultimately earned the role of Jango Fett. Asked about his memories of the original film, Morrison could not remember back so far, instead saying:

"I was just leaving boarding school – ’77 was my last year of school, way back then. I don’t thinkStar Warswas anywhere in my peripheral. I did eventually see it somewhere because I love going to the movies."

From there, Morrison built up his acting career abroad and spoke about the good fortune that fell his way in landing the role of Jango Fett. While his past experience helped, the casting lady situated just a floor above his hotel was an even bigger aid. From there, the two had a simple conversation with a video camera and the rest is history.

And then after getting the role, pure excitement and a bit of homework to do.

"It was a fantastic feeling. I had to brush up on my Fett homework though – I didn’t know who the hell Jango Fett was! People were like, “Yeaaaah, you’re Jango Fett!” And I was like, “who the hell’s Jango Fett?!” [laughs]"

4. He has been the video game voice of the Fetts

One of the most comprehensive aspects of game development that people often forget to consider is the voice lines. And with the memorable voices gracing the galaxy, Star Wars game developers have faced that challenge one too many times. That hasn’t been the case with Morrison, though.

Dating all the way back to the days of LucasArts, Morrison voiced a clone in Republic Commando and all of them in the original Battlefront games. He did the same for Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game, even at the time when the minifigures did little more than grumble.

Now, you can hear Morrison lend his voice to Boba Fett in the new set of Battlefront games released by EA. If only they would add Jango too, the voice lines are already there!

It can get a bit confusing talking about all the actors who have played Boba Fett. First, in the original trilogy, the man behind the mask was Jeremy Bulloch. Then, in the prequel trilogy, the young boy was played by Daniel Logan. Now, Morrison fills the shoes.

Since the prequel trilogy, Logan hasvoiced Boba throughout theClone Warsand is rumored to play a part in the live-action series starring the character. Being father and son in the films, Morrison and Logan also share a bond in real life.

The two were co-stars in a soap opera in their home country of New Zealand,Shortland Street. It may seem like so long ago now, but they reunited back in 2012 with a social media post from Logan. Just as the tweet says, they often refer to each other as “father” and “son” too.

And as another tidbit, Morrison spent some time acting alongside Harrison Ford himself inSix Days, Seven Nights. So theStar Wars connections have often been there.

2. Morrison continues to give back to the galaxy today

As mentioned earlier, Morrison graces our screenswhenever the chance comes his way, and it’s a great joy of his too. In that same interview with starwars.com, Morrison spoke about the significance of getting to live on through different armor sets.

"What’ll make me really happy is if I get the phone call asking me to play another character – an older Captain Rex or something. I want to pop in on one of these new ones, that would be great. Suggest it to them for me! Let’s get on to it!"

Then, of course, is the fact that Morrison continues to attendStar Warsconventions and engage with fans across the globe. He said, “I see the same old fans at the same old conventions, they love us – “Heyyy, good to see you here man, haven’t seen you for ages!” And the 501st Legion, who have all these clubs around the world – they’re my people, all dressed up, the Jango Fetts!”

While there was no convention this year, the opportunity to play another role in the galaxy came to be. We can’t wait to see what Morrison does inThe Mandalorian. And who knows, maybe those Captain Rex rumors will one day come true too.

Now if you have been keeping up with the whirlwind ofStar Warsrumors, you’ll likely have heard of the ones mentioned before. Important to note, they were spot-on with Morrison’s involvement inThe Mandalorian.

One of the more intriguing ones, however, has to be that Morrison will return toDisney+ again in the confirmedKenobi series. And the only role that seems right would be as Commander Cody and the 212th Battalion.

The feasibility of this is a bit up-in-the-air. On one hand, Cody was at the helm of Order 66, not by choice of course, and his battalion nearly killed Kenobi on Utapau. Yet, at the same time, he was a loyal fighter for Obi-Wan and may win back his master’s favor.

Sometimes fan service can become too much, but with Morrison, I’m open to the idea.
